After Elon Musk bought Twitter, Elton John decided to stop using it. Since the tech mogul put in place rules that would “allow misinformation to go unchecked,” the Rocket Man singer said in a farewell tweet on Friday that he would no longer be using the platform.
He wrote, “I’ve spent my whole life trying to use music to unite people, but it saddens me to see how misinformation is now being used to divide our planet. ” I have decided to stop using Twitter in light of their new policy. Changes that will enable misinformation to spread unchallenged.
Many experts fear a rise in hate speech, abuse and conspiracy theories with Musk’s announcement that he was offering a “universal apology” for blocked accounts, prompting the 75-year-old’s move.
Most recently, he suspended the Twitter account of former US President Donald Trump, although Trump did not post as he prefers to use his social media platform, Truth Social.
Musk just terminated musician Kanye West’s account after the publication of an anti-Semitic graphic. He had just recently returned to the stage after his first ban.
John left Twitter along with Whoopi Goldberg, Gigi Hadid and Jim Carrey after Musk took control of the company in late October.
Billionaire and Twitter CEO Elon Musk replied to the tweet. Musk replied, “I love your music, and I hope you come back. Are you worried about misinformation?”
Several famous people such as producer Shonda Rhimes and singer Toni Braxton have vowed to leave the social networking site when Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter is completed at the end of October.
The researchers saw an “immediate” surge in “vulgar and offensive” discourse. Many expressed concern that the amendment to Twitter could enable the promotion of hate speech and inappropriate content on the network.
